Since my childhood I have been fascinated by motor vehicle along with his family’s enthusiasm in the period late 50’s. Which led me to take a career in the automobile design. So you can say I am a car nuts before a designer and my work might have been a little based to the emotional expression rather than the rational development in the logical product design method.

I started a car design profession in Toyota Motor Co. in Japan after graduated the product design course at Chiba University. Don’t worry, I learned the classic such as BAUHAUS and William Morris there.

However I couldn’t cope with my task very well in designing high volume production cars in the mega corporation and left Toyota in order to start his own way of designing cars.

Career:

  • 1974-1985: Toyota Motor Co. Design Department

  • 1985-1987: Royal college of Art, Master course Vehicle Design

  • 1986-1989: Austin Rover Group Ltd. Manager at Medium Car Design Studio

  • 1989-1990: Rover Group Ltd. Manager at Design Research Studio

  • 1990-1992: International Automotive Design (IAD UK Ltd.) Project Manager

  • 1992: Left IAD (UK) Ltd. Started own consultancy “Design & Realizations UK”

  • 1995: Setting up Design & Realizations Japan Ltd.

  • 2011: Closed Design & Realizations Ltd UK

  • 2011-2015: GM PATAC Design expert, Shanghai China

  • 2016-2019: ARRK corporation in Japan Executive Creative Officer

  • 2019-Present: Design & Realizations Japan Advisor Kunyuan Automotive Technology Shanghai Ltd. Executive Creative Officer

Tuition & Lecture:

  • 1987: Sketch instructor at Coventry University) UK Transport Design Course

  • 2004: SONY Design Centre Lecture “5senses image formation in car design practice”

  • 2008: Royal College of Art / London temporary visiting Lecturer “Euro K-car project”

Besides the design also I have been involved in many prototype car building projects such as low volume sports car “ASL Garaiya” and still chasing my lifetime dream to be a low volume production car manufacturer.

I believe designers need to control their passion (sounds a little contrived) in order to keep the motivation high to create a fresh and exciting output while keep themselves cool in the daily life.
