iF Design Foundation and Die Neue Sammlung – The Design Museum open joint campus

Marking its 100th anniversary in 2025, Die Neue Sammlung is opening an international platform on the future of design education

The iF Design Foundation and Die Neue Sammlung have agreed on a joint three-year program, starting in 2023. Together with international partner institutions, they will work on the development of building blocks that can be used to bring design education up to date. In the process, the Neue Sammlung will become a public campus.

The entire process and its results will be published and made available to all interested institutions. The project is based on the findings of an international research project with participants from all over the world, which, since 2016, has been conducted and published by the iF Design Foundation. The starting point was the widely expressed view that design education needs an update, taking into account many different perspectives.

The project aims at providing design schools with a proven set of tools and references, which they can use to implement transformation. The launch event will take place on 27 October 2022, as part of a public symposium at the Pinakothek der Moderne.

The iF Design Foundation is an educational foundation based in Hannover, Germany. It is committed to the common good and focuses on academic research and education in the context of design. The foundation aims to contribute to the further development of design for the common good. To this end, the iF Design Foundation implements projects which encourage and support concrete changes in design education. It is important to the foundation that the public learns more about the social relevance of design. The 2021 foundational work Designing Design Education. WhiteBook on the Future of Design Education documents findings from five years of academic research. Currently, the iF Design Foundation is working on a transparency study for design degree programs in Germany.
