Prof. Fritz Frenkler appointed Director of the Architecture Section at the Akademie der Künste, Berlin

Prof. Fritz Frenkler, vice chairman of the iF Design Foundation, has been a member of the Architecture Section at the Akademie der Künste since 2013. Now he has been appointed director of the Architecture Section.

On 13 November 2021, the members of the Akademie der Künste not only re-elected the president and vice president; they also newly elected the directors and deputy directors of the school’s six sections. Together with the president and vice-president, they form the Senate of the Akademie der Künste, which consults and decides on all of the institution’s projects. Fritz Frenkler was appointed director of the Architecture Section; HG Merz was appointed deputy director.

About Fritz Frenkler: Co-founder of f/p design gmbh with offices in Munich and Kyoto and a representative office in Berlin. After graduating in industrial design from the Braunschweig University of Art (HBK), he first worked for frogdesign Germany and USA. He then took over the set-up and management of frogdesign Asia in Tokyo. Later, he became managing director of wiege Wilkhahn Entwicklungsgesellschaft, was head of design at Deutsche Bahn AG and managing director of Deutsche Bahn Medien GmbH. In 2005, Fritz Frenkler was appointed honorary professor of industrial design at the HBK Braunschweig. From 2006 to 2020, he was professor of industrial design, Faculty of Architecture, at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) and has since been TUM Emeritus of Excellence, Senior Excellence Faculty at TUM. Fritz Frenkler has been chairman of the iF DESIGN AWARD jury since 1996. He has also been a board member of the iF Design Foundation since April 2018.
